ServiceMaster of Arlington, Bethesda, Chantilly, Reston & Manassas, Inc. started over 40 years ago with a man’s vision, hard work and heart. Reece Conner was introduced to ServiceMaster through a relative and came to realize that the company had a great reputation and integrity, which matched his own beliefs. In 1969, Reece and Donna Conner, along with their young children, bought their first service territory in Arlington, VA.

Experiencing a “puff back” from their furnace, which covered their entire home with soot; Reece & Donna Conner personally came to understand the perspective of their customers and the power of ServiceMaster cleaning. They “caught the vision” as to what they could accomplish through ServiceMaster at the national conference.

As they built their business ServiceMaster presented them with the highest national award, the Marion E. Wade Award, named after the founder and given to a franchise with commitment to the corporate objectives and achievement of great success. With this recognition came the esteem of fellow franchisees, who sought Reece’s advice. He was innovative, seeking better and new ways of doing things. Many of his techniques are still used in the industry today.

Reece and Donna then purchased the rights to expand the territory of their franchise, which now serves the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. In the book, Believers In Business, in the chapter “Building From the Heart: The Story of Reece & Donna Conner”, Reece is quoted as saying, “success is all in the heart”. It is this belief that led them to build the company through providing outstanding customer service. They were recognized by one of their customers, who was a freelance writer for the Washington Post and wrote a story for the cover of the In Style section. Since then, there continues to be innumerable letters, phone calls and Quality Assurance Surveys that praise our excellence in service.

Although Reece has passed, his work ethic and heart lives on. Donna continues their vision of integrity and standard for impeccable service. She knows that their “successes are from the people we’ve gathered around us over the years”.
